This website provides you an introduction to me and to my candidacy for Judge of the 11th Civil District Court of Harris County, Texas. I am currently running in the Republican Primary, with the election scheduled for May 29, 2012. The General Election will be held on November 6, 2012.

I am a 7th generation Texan and I am proud to call Harris County home. Upon graduation from South Houston High School, I attended Baylor University where I received my degree in Bachelors of Business Administration with majors in Finance and Economics. After a short career in the banking industry, I decided to pursue my interest in the law by attending South Texas College of Law.

I currently practice law with my dad, retired State District Judge David West. Working with my dad has been an honor. I am indebted to him and to my mom, Gayle, for their guidance, love and support. They are great role models to me and my wife, Laura and our three teenagers as to what good parents, good family life and strong values should be.

By my parents' example, I learned a deep respect for our country and the rule of law. I grew up learning about the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and all the freedoms we have because others fought to protect those rights. My desire to become a judge is founded on the belief that these rights must be preserved and protected. I also believe that a good judge should apply the law as the legislature has written it.

I recognize the fact that everyone wants and deserves timely justice. My confident knowledge of the law will enable that timeliness. I also know that appropriate trust and respect are factors to maintain proper decorum in the courtroom. I am not afraid of hard work, and I plan to do just that for the people of Harris County and of Texas.
